Observation Narrative
The habitat and vegetation are similar to FCSP018 and FCSP020, representing an open and stunted Pinus taeda woodland on high, interior dunes. The site is on the largest dune and near the highest elevation on the False Cape peninsula, occupying a somewhat sheltered, northeast-facing "side slope." The upper portion of the sample area is relatively scrubby, with more densely stocked pines over Myrica pensylvanica. The downslope portion is very open, with scattered pines over exposed sand supporting sparse Hudsonia tomentosa and dune grasses. At the southeast end of the plot is a small opening with a dense colony of Pityopsis graminifolia var. latifolia.
